Mohammad Zoualfaghari

Global Technology Lead - AWS

Prof Mohammad Zoualfaghari (PhD, MEng, MIET, MIEEE) is the World-wide Principal Technology Leader for Telco at Amazon Web Services (AWS), leading successful end to end Telecom initiatives with Tier 1 operators, as the trusted C-level advisor and strategist. Mo is also a visiting professor at University of Surrey’s 5G/6G Innovation Centre (5>6GIC), which is Europe's largest Industrial 5G/6G research network. Mo provides over 13 years of experience in the telecommunication industry and has been awarded the UK’s Engineer of the Year in 2021, as the inventor of Zero Touch Onboarding (ZTO) technology suite. His expertise includes IoT, Private 5G and Digital business Marketplace (DBM).

Prior to AWS, Mo was the research manager and Internet of Things (IoT) architect in BT Applied Research. He was the head of technical design & delivery for the UK’s flagship smart cities pilots, and the lead for BT's international centre of excellence in Ireland (BTIIC). Mo has also experience of a couple of successful start-ups, as their CTO and Technical Lead. He was also an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Electronic, Electrical and Systems Engineering at the University of Birmingham (UK). Moreover, in the last few years, Mo has led several international and cross-industry collaborations for few standard bodies (e.g. TM Forum).

Mo received his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) and Master of Engineering (MEng, 1st Class) degrees, both in Electrical, Electronic and Communications Engineering from the University of Birmingham (UK), in 2015 and 2009, respectively. He is the registered inventor of many patents, book chapters, whitepapers, journals, and conference papers. Mo is also an active member of the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
